CHRISTIAN LIBERATION MOVEMENT (MCL): STATEMENT ON EU POLICY TOWARDS CUBA

CHRISTIAN LIBERATION MOVEMENT (MCL): STATEMENT ON EU POLICY TOWARDS CUBA
2007-06-13.

Havana, May 24, 2007

To the European Commission

Your Excellencies,

With regards to the meeting of the European Commission that will take
place in June of this year in which the topic of the relationship
between our countries will be discussed, we present to you the manifesto
Unity for Freedom.

This document contains the common principles and objectives of almost
all of the representatives of organizations from the peaceful democratic
opposition in Cuba. For this reason, although we do not speak on behalf
of those who have signed it, the Christian Liberation Movement calls
upon the European Union to support this document and to take it as a
reference from which to orient its relationship with Cuba.

Our movement believes that it should be a priority of the European Union
to continue to demand for the liberation of all of the Cuban political
prisoners who are in prison for peacefully promoting, defending and
exercising their universally recognized human rights and supporting the
right of our people to democratic change and to respect for the "right
of Cubans to have all of their rights," as it is expressed in that
manifesto of unity.

We send you our fraternal greetings.

Oswaldo José Payá Sardiñas
Minervo Lázaro Chil Siret

In the name of the Christian Liberation Movement
